Civic tech projects often begin with the belief that government data/service should be opened “for everyone.” But who actually uses these datasets the most, and what do they need?

In this session, we challenge the assumption of “developing solutions for every citizen” by showing how identifying main users can potentially create greater impact.

Two case studies

  1. LawTrace, a tool for professional legislative tracking.
  2. OpenBudget, which increases accessibility to governmental budget data.

Aspects of our sharing Our approach which incorporates research and promotion before and after development, and how this model reshapes advocacy strategies. The importance of identifying target audiences, and how our solution is designed to meet their specific needs.
